Garden Volunteers In Action!
Message From The Park Superintendant
I just thought I would let all of you know that we had a very successful (and hot) volunteer workday on June 28. Six great, hardworking volunteers showed up and we weeded and mulched the butterfly garden. It was a mess and it looks great now!!! We were visited by a friendly black rat snake who just passed through the garden, resting for a bit in the shade, and we discovered two "nests" of skink eggs, which we buried back where we found them.
We have since finished mulching the courtyard gardens and I transplanted some fire pinks that Ranger Nergart rescued from the mower and begun weeding the herb garden.
Thanks to and Native Plant Society volunteers for supporting our Park!

National Public Lands Day
A date has been set for National Public Lands Day at Haw River State Park! Join us on Saturday, September the 20th at 9 am for a great workday in the park. We will be joined by other volunteer groups, and also by Parks Resource Manager Emily Parisher for a day of learning and service. Our goal will be to remove the exotic Ailanthus (Tree-of- Heaven) and Paulowina trees.
We can provide some equipment, but ask if there's anyone who has work gloves, loppers or bow saws and garden spray bottles to bring them along. Please contact me with any questions or concerns, let's get a sign-up list started for
what looks to be a great event in the park!
Thanks for all your enthusiasm and hard work for Harw River State Park.
